Second Intermediate Period

Dynasty XIV-XVII
Again, Egypt became destabilized, this time from plagues, famine, and war. During this time, the Hyksos (their Egyptian name, meaning “Rulers of Foreign Countries”) invaded and conquered Lower Egypt. The Hyksos traded heavily with Caanan and other nations, and exported looted Egyptian artifacts. They were known to destroy Egyptian monuments and statuary.
But the nomes of Upper Egypt began to band together under a new dynasty of kings at Thebes. They pushed back against the Hyksos in the north and the Kushites in the south, eventually succeeding and reunifying Egypt.
